The overarching goal of the QuaProDur research project is to significantly increase knowledge about the generation and influencing of the material properties of thermoset molding compounds resulting from a chemical cross-linking reaction in the injection mold.
The thermoset material group is able to close the material-specific gap between thermoplastics and light metal alloys. This is due to their outstanding material properties, such as their very high mechanical characteristics and good temperature and media resistance, etc. - all at a low density.
For these reasons, the industry is currently focusing on thermosets, which is increasing the demand for economically produced thermoset components. The aim is therefore to bring the state of the art in thermoset technology closer to that of thermoplastic injection molding.
The overarching goal of the QuaProDur research project is to significantly increase knowledge about the generation and influencing of the material properties of thermoset molding compounds resulting from a chemical cross-linking reaction in the injection mold in order to obtain homogeneous and high-quality component properties. Only through the holistic analysis and evaluation of the influences of the material property-generating process parameters and their correlations can future products be realized economically and the user's fear of contact be taken away.
The project's innovations relate to the material-based process understanding to be generated and the fundamental work that is to lead to an economically attractive primary molding process. This will enable the material technology challenges of tomorrow (e.g. in the automotive industry and electrical engineering) to be solved economically with injection-molded, thermoset components. Without an understanding of the process, the duromer material group will only be able to establish itself very slowly, if at all.
