Danubians Cradle-to-Cradle Architecture and construction processes

DECORATOR promotes the transformation of the construction sector towards a circular economy in the Danube region. This combines ecological, technical, social and economic aspects.

Project background

Construction and demolition waste accounts for more than half of all waste generated. At the same time, the extraction of primary raw materials is becoming increasingly difficult. In this context, urban mining is becoming increasingly important. Following the successful completion of the CIRCULAR 4.0 project, the DECORATOR project is now focusing on the construction sector.

Project objective

Development of circular economy models and specific solutions for the construction industry, based on research and best practices. First practical applications and tests of the developed concepts and models in real construction projects and urban development initiatives in the Danube region. Evaluation of the pilot projects and identification of improvement opportunities as well as scalability of the developed solutions. Scaling of the successful concepts and integration into larger construction projects and dissemination of the knowledge gained to other regions and cities. Ensuring that the circular building practices are stable in the long term and achieve the desired sustainable effects.

Project procedure

The DECORATOR project begins with an analysis of the regional conditions and the involvement of stakeholders from various sectors. In the research and development phase, cradle-to-cradle models for circular construction are developed and modern technologies are integrated. In the pilot phase, the first projects are implemented, the results of which are evaluated and optimized in the evaluation phase. The successful models are then transferred to larger projects in the scaling phase. In the long term, the impact of the solutions will be monitored and continuous adjustments will be made to promote a sustainable circular economy in the construction industry.

Innovation

The innovations of the DECORATOR project combine advanced technology with traditional knowledge and social innovation to establish a circular economy in the construction sector that goes beyond technological solutions and encompasses social, cultural and economic dimensions. The project has the potential to sustainably transform the construction industry by rethinking the entire life cycle of materials and buildings.
